This ISM will give me the opportunity to learn more about fields that will greatly influence my future as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Becoming a Licensed Social Worker is my goal as a career but it’s not my overarching goal in life. That goal is to truly make a difference in the lives of children and young adults as well as their families. Therefore, this overarching goal requires the career goal and I am super excited for my future and grateful that this ISM will take me there. Something unique that can only happen due to my Individualized Studies Major is it can prepare me to work with children from an interdisciplinary standpoint, whereas most students start as psychology OR sociology majors, I will have background knowledge from them as well as electives, liberal arts, and even anthropology courses. I will be able to go into an MSW classroom and be prepared to focus on how different factors impact children’s lives and not simply in a psychological or statistical manner, but in a qualitative way with a sociological perspective using the three pillars only I have created. To create something like this is amazing and it truly allows me to make a difference in my own unique way for children and that is the most exciting part of this major and opportunity for me.
